Jeep Leaders: Championship Tour Has Begun

2017’s Most Recent Surf Rankings

Now that the Jeep Leaders: Championship Tour has begun, the rankings are out for the first of the 11 stops. The first stop was the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast for the men and the Roxy Pro Gold Coast for the women.

On the men’s side…

Held at Snapper Rocks, the Quiksilver Pro was a tight battle. Australian surfer Owen Wright came out on top over Matt Wilkinson another Australian pro. The two friends had a great heat and a very fun to watch face off. Twas’ a true fairy tale story due to the fact that Wright suffered a terrible injury last season at Banzai Pipeline and had been in recovery for the past year. He inspired many as he received the best scores he has ever received at this tournament. Wright finished with a 14.66.

On the women’s side…

Also held at Snapper Rocks, the Roxy Pro was equally as exhilarating. Stephanie Gilmore has won the Roxy Pro 5 times in her career. Along with Wright, Gilmore was also fighting her way back from injury. She stunned the crowd this year finishing over Lakey Peterson with a score of 16.60.

The Jeep Leaders: Championship Tour is a 10 stop tour. The next stop for our surfers is the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro. All of these tournaments are usually streamed live and can be watched on the World Surf League website.
