San Diego Girls surfing lessons ,surf camps in San Diego.

Where are you located?
For surf lessons, we meet on the beach side at 735 Santa Clara , Mission Beach

2. How early should I arrive? surf camp, surfing lessons San Diego
Parking, especially on weekends can be a challenge so allow your self at least 30 minutes before class to insure a parking spot, put on your wetsuit and sign your waiver.

3. What should I bring to a Surfergirls surf class?
Please wear your swimsuit or bikini, beneath your clothing, or top with surf shorts , put on your sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to your lesson. Bring a towel, sunglasses, hat and change of clothing and a bottle of water or drinks.

4. Where do we meet for Teen surf camp?
For the first day (Monday) of surf camp we meet at our shop at 735 Santa Clara Mission beach at 9:00am.

5. What should I bring to camp?
Campers must bring a back pack or bag, bring a healthy lunch and snacks, pocket money, long sleeve sweat or jacket, towel, sunscreen, shoes, and a drink.

6. What do I do if I wear contacts?
If you wear disposable ones, you are okay. Otherwise, you can wear an old pair and close your eyes tightly when underwater. You may also want to use swim goggles.

7. What is the water temperature like?
During the summer months the water temperature ranges between 65ºF - 69ºF.

8. Do we get to use wetsuits?
Surfer girls have a broad selection of spring suits at your disposal if you have your own suit you are welcome to use it. We also provide you with brightly colored rash-guards.

9. Do we have to use wetsuits or can I bring my own?
You can wear your own wetsuit. If you don’t want to wear a wetsuit it is advisable that you bring a pair of surf shorts to use with a rash guard that we provide for you.

10. What kind of instructors do you have?
All of our instructors, male and female are experienced surfers and soul surfers for over 10 years. Some are even pro-s! They are all certified in CPR and first aid EMT and some are also ocean lifeguards.

11. Do I get a discount for bringing my own equipment?
We do not give discounts for students that bring their own equipment.

12. Do you offer any discounts?
We offer discounts for bigger groups or for more than 3 siblings in the family please contact our office for further information.

13. Do we get to use the wetsuits and equipment after the lesson?
All private, semi private and group lessons allow you to use our surfboards and wetsuits after your lesson free of charge for one hour. During the summer only.

14. Do you rent surf boards after our lessons?
You are welcome to further rent surf boards after your lesson if we have the equipment available.

15. Are there rest rooms or changing rooms nearby?
There are restrooms for customers only at our shop at, 735 Santa Clara (West side), or at the Santa Clara recreation center on the bay (East side).

16. How good of a swimmer do I have to be?
You need to be able to swim with your head above water and must be able to swim to shore. Smaller kids and weak swimmers will be kept in shallow waters and our instructors are always with the students at all times.

17. What kind of preparation can I do to help my surf?
Overnight campers can prepare your bodies at least one month prior to camp by swimming, stretching, doing push ups, rowing exercises and preparing your biceps and triceps. Yoga is an excellent compliment for people that like to take surf seriously.

18. What kind of diet is recommended for surfers?
Surf is a very dynamic sport and you need lots of energy and explosion. A good balanced healthy diet is always recommended for any physical activity. Please consult your physician if in doubt.

19. Are there any sharks at Mission Beach?
No sharks have been seen however, you may occasionally come across some dolphins further out or even bump into “Shamu” that may have lost his way from Sea world!

20. Are there stores and restaurants in the area?
Our school and overnight camps are situated within close distance of popular restaurants and clothing stores and supermarkets. There are a variety of restaurants and stores in the nearby area. Great sandwiches and breakfast is available at Sticky buns 735 Santa Clara, and at Voltaire’s and the Boardwalk Café all on Santa Clara.

1. When does 5 day Teen/Adult overnight camp start?
5 Day overnight surf camp begins Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm, we have a short orientation and check-in for parents who have escorted their children.

2.Where do we meet?
We meet at our camp base 721 Ormond Ct, Mission Beach, San Diego. See Map.

3. I am flying in for 5 Day Overnight camp to San Diego’s Lindbergh field airport, what times can I arrive so that the shuttle can pick me up?
5 Day campers flying in must arrive on Sunday afternoon between 2-4pm.

4. When does 5 Day Overnight camp end?
5 Day Teen overnight camp ends on Friday at 5pm for parental pick up.

5. At which times can I book my return flights if I am staying for the 5 Day Overnight camp?
5 Day Teen or Adult overnight campers departing from Lindberg field must depart on Friday between 2-4pm campers that require early or later airport drop off will be charged a $25 surcharge fee.

6. When does weekend camp start?
Weekend camp starts Friday afternoon at 1pm for parents escorting their children and orientation.
For adult camps you can arrive anytime after lunch on Friday afternoon

7. I am Flying into San Diego’s Lindbergh filed airport ,what time should I arrive for my airport shuttle?
Weekend campers flying in must arrive on Friday afternoon between 2-4pm campers arriving at other times at the airport will be charged a $25 surcharge.

8. What time does weekend camp finish and at what time can my parents pick me up from weekend overnight camp?
Weekend camp ends Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. Parents can pick up their kids between 1-2pm.
Adult overnight camps ends Sunday afternoon after sunset.

9. At what time can I schedule my return flights from San Diego?
Weekend campers departing from Lindberg Field airport must depart on Sunday between 2-4pm.

10. If my parents are staying at your family overnight camp or staying in a hotel in San Diego are we allowed to go out with them even though we are attending an Overnight program?
Campers are welcome to dine out once with parents, if parents are staying in San Diego, however there is a 10pm curfew and must be scheduled with our office well in advance.

11. Do I need pocket money and how much should I bring?
Teen overnight campers must bring pocket money, you will be provided with three hearty meals a day & drinks, at meals time. For extra snacks and personal items or spending money for extra-curricular activities it is advised to bring an additional $150 pocket money for the week.

12. Can we bring Cell phones to camp?
TEEN Campers are only allowed to use cell phones during specified times due to camp rules & regulations.

13. How many meals a day do you provide for Teen overnight camps?
Teen overnight campers will receive three hearty meals per day with drinks and dessert at dinner time. Breakfast is hearty and is self service. Lunch and dinner are served and made for campers with “camp helpers” participating with the meals preparation. Campers will have access to supermarkets to buy extra snacks or special needs.

14. How many meals a day do you provide for 5 day ADULT overnight camp?
For adult overnight campers we provide a hearty self serve breakfast and Dinner at night. Some nights, campers may choose to eat out. But most nights we will have Barbeques or theme nights such as Mexican night, pasta night etc..

15. I am a vegetarian, do you have meals for Vegetarians?
Yes we do, however it is advisable that you contact our office well in advance for special arrangements.

16. Do you have supervised activities in the evenings for TEEN overnight campers?
In the evening after dinner, we offer short sight seeing trips to shops or malls, have bon fires by the bay, watch suitable videos or even go to the movies or sea world.

17.What activities do Adult campers do in the evenings.
Adult campers will participate in group events until after dinner. Some nights we will go out for dinner. For the rest of the evenings, adult overnight campers are FREE to do as they like. Our camp co-coordinators are at your disposal to show you San Diego’s famous night life. Just remember wake up call is 8:30 for your morning surf session.

18. Who are our surf instructors and camp monitors?
Our surf instructors and monitors are locals; they are fun and friendly and have worked with our team for many summers over the years. All surf instructors and monitors are certified in CPR and first aid and EMT.

19. Do you supply surf boards and wetsuits during overnight camp?
Boards and wetsuits are supplied to each student.

20. During overnight camp do we get to surf everyday?
Five Day surf camp ends on Friday at 1:30 pm. A small graduation party is held and each student is presented with a certificate of completion and one photo, stickers etc. Parents are welcome to visit on the last day if scheduled through our office.

21. What do I need to bring to the beach during my overnight camp surf lessons
During the day it is advisable that campers bring, sun block, sunglasses, a hat, a beach towel, snacks such as water, drinks and fresh fruits.

22. Does Surfergirls provide TEEN campers with food or snacks during the lessons?
Campers should have a big hearty breakfast back at camp base as lunch will be served around 2pm after morning session surf class. Snacks during lessons are not provided. During lessons you will have a break, whereby a camp counselor will escort any of those wanting to go to the convenience store.

Once you have signed up for surf trip Brazil we will send out information packets via e.mail or by fax.

2.What are the age groups of surf trip students?
Most surf trip students are adults aged between 18-25, 25-45.

3.Do you have internet access at your surf camp bases?
Yes we do there are a lot of internet cafes available.

 

1. Can I book my plane tickets through Surfergirls?
We can arrange plane tickets for groups over 8 people and group discounts, if you are traveling alone to join a group it is best to buy your tickets at your place of residence.

2. Which air port do I fly into?
For Rio-Santa Catarina Surf Trip you will fly into Galeao Antonio Carlos (GIG)-International airport and depart from (FLN) Florianopolis Hercilio Luz airport.

4. Which air port do I fly into for Santa Catarina-Brazil Surf Trip?

5. Do I need travel insurance?
It is always recommended to get full coverage travel insurance that covers you for any eventual accidents, or unforeseen circumstances.

6. Do I need a visa to go to Brazil?
Yes you need to get a visa to come to Brazil check with your travel agent or call the Brazilian consulate in LA: 1-323 651 2661 or Miami: 1-305 285 6200.

7. Can I get my domestic flight tickets through Surfergirls?
We can arrange your domestic flight tickets through our office please call 1-858 427 0644, but if you can include all your flight travel plans in your package deal from home it is guaranteed for you and most probably less expensive.

8. Will I be picked up from the airport?
You will be picked up at whatever airport you will arrive at, by our private van/car and a Surfergirls team member holding a name card .

9. Is it safe to travel alone to Brazil as a woman?
Absolutely, our team will look after your every need and we have female team members. It is advised of course for women not to go out alone in remote or unknown areas or slums areas in Rio de Janeiro. The people in Rio are very friendly and helpful .In the south, in Santa Catarina the violence is minimal as you are in a total beach environment and ecological paradise. The “Catarinense” are very friendly people and their origins are from the Dutch Germans and Italians.

1. Are we lodged in single rooms or shared rooms?
Your lodging will mostly be shared based sometimes triple.

2. Can I arrange for a private room?
Yes, we do have private rooms available for an additional cost

3. Are our accommodations on the beach?
All Pacific surf trips and camp bases in Brazil are beach front. Depending on the season and availability some rooms even may have ocean views.

4. Are the accommodations/rooms safe to keep our personal belongings?
All rooms have safes for you to store your personal goods .It is advised that you bring a little cash, travelers cheques and your ATM card also works in Brazil. Surfergirls is not responsible for any stolen or personal belongings.

5. Do the rooms have AC?
Yes, the rooms have AC and ceiling fans however for those of you traveling down the coast from Rio to the south-Santa Catarina during your one night accommodation in a Pousada we may not guarantee AC for the rooms.

1. Is the water drinkable in Brazil?
In Brazil we drink bottled water or filtered water.

2. Do I need to take Malaria Prophylaxis, and if so what?
No malaria is not necessary for Brazil a good mosquito repellant is necessary and have your tetanus shots up to date.

3. Do you have Dengue Fever in Brazil?
During certain times of the year in certain areas like the Amazon ,some of the bigger cities have Dengue Fever but mainly in poorer and slum areas.

1. What is included in the surf trip Rio-Santa Catarina price?
The surf trip includes 7 nights or 14 nights accommodation with a self serve breakfast and buffet style dinner. Daily surf course & instruction and equipment, daily transportation to other beaches, airport shuttle, English speaking guides.

2. What other costs will I incur for this surf trip?
If you would like to participate in other extra activities such as diving, dune boarding, yoga classes and massages, drinking and nocturnal activities these would be at your own expense. You will also need spending money. Your airline tickets to and from Brazil are also another cost not included in our package price.

3. Can I just do the surf course with out the accommodation?
We have surf schools all over Brazil you are welcome to attend our regular surf school.

4. Can I just do the accommodation and not the surf courses?
Yes we can arrange for accommodation packages only, please contact us at surftrip@alohasurfergirls.com for further information.

5. Can I just rent surfing equipment?
Yes you can rent equipment.

6. What can I expect from the two week surf course and trip?
If you never surfed before, and you have prepared your body before the surf trip you will be able to:
Paddle and read small and mid sized waves. Stand up and glide down the waves and control your board Turn to your front and back side, to follow the natural peeling of the wave Turtle and duck dive Wave judgment, ocean safety & awareness, read currents rules of priority, surfing etiquette,

7. Do we surf any weather?
You may surf any weather if the surf is good and safe.

8.Which beaches do we surf at?
You will have various beaches to choose from, some secluded and secret in the south of Brazil. Some days you will surf out the front of camp base others days we will take our 4WD or van to other beaches.

1.How can I pay for my surf trip?
You can pay online via Pay-Pal or send a check to our office. A 30% deposit of must be paid 45 days prior to your travel dates. You can also pay the balance upon arrival in cash or Travellers cheques.

2. Can I wire the whole amount in advance?
Yes you can pay into Surfergirls account in the US. Please contact us at surftrip@alohasurfergirls.com

3. Can I pay by Credit card?
You can pay by Mastercard or Visa through Pay-Pal online. We do not accept payment by credit cards in Brazil.

4. Can I pay by credit card in Brazil in restaurants etc?
Yes, in most establishments they accept most major credit cards, some smaller establishments only accept cash in Brazil.

5. What currency should I bring to Brazil?
You can bring US Dollars or Euro.
